Description
Mid-Face Lift Surgery
A mid-face lift is a surgical procedure that can provide a solution for individuals with sagging cheeks—commonly referred to as “bulldog cheeks”—caused by gravitational effects on the zygoma (cheekbone) and jawline. Sometimes also called a cheek lift, this cosmetic procedure tightens the skin from the upper mouth area to the eye region.
A mid-face lift restores a more youthful appearance and corrects the hollow look under the eyes. Similar to a SMAS facelift, the mid-face lift manipulates the underlying muscles to create a longer-lasting solution for sagging skin and facial contours. Additionally, by suspending the malar fat pad and eye muscle, this procedure smooths out fine lines and wrinkles in the temples, creating a complete transformation in the middle third of the face.
The mid-face lift specifically targets the cheeks and under-eye area, resulting in a more youthful look. It does not address the jawline or forehead—these areas are better treated with a full facelift.
When Should a Mid-Face Lift Be Considered?
- If you notice significant signs of aging in the area between your eyes and jawline
- If you have sagging cheeks and wrinkles around your mouth
- If you feel that your eyes look sunken
If you experience one or more of the above concerns, are in good overall health, have realistic expectations, and feel emotionally ready with a positive outlook, you may be an excellent candidate for this procedure.
Techniques
Mid-Face Lift Procedure
Once the patient is anesthetized, the surgeon makes an incision around the hairline and forehead to access the sagging facial muscles by lifting the skin. At this stage, the weakened muscles are repositioned into their new locations.
The elevated “flap” includes the SMAS muscle, the malar fat pad, and the orbicularis oculi muscle. These structures are then secured at a higher position, closer to the temples and the edges of the orbital bone.
It is common for patients to combine a mid-face lift with other procedures, such as blepharoplasty or fat grafting, to further enhance the overall results.
The goal of the mid-face lift is to lift the cheek area and rejuvenate the face by treating fine lines around the mouth.

The procedure is carried out with meticulous attention to detail to ensure natural, balanced results that integrate seamlessly with the overall facial aesthetics.
After Surgery
After Mid-Face Lift Surgery
The results of a mid-face lift are immediately noticeable and can last 10 to 15 years. The effects are long-lasting; however, they will inevitably be influenced by the natural aging process and the pull of gravity over time.
- After mid-face lift surgery, careful postoperative care is vital to ensure a smooth recovery.
- Following all instructions provided by your surgeon is essential for healthy healing (including postoperative bandages, drains, incision care, prescribed medications/creams, etc.).
- Unless medically required, the hospital stay is limited to 2 days.
-After discharge, you will attend postoperative check-ups scheduled by your surgeon.
- For the first 10 days, avoid activities that may raise blood pressure and cause bleeding in the surgical area.
- Returning to your daily routine may take about one week; however, if you are employed, it is recommended to take two weeks off if possible.
- During the first three days, you may feel tightness and pain around your stitches. This can be managed with pain relievers and will gradually subside.
-You may feel tired and sensitive after surgery; therefore, it is advisable to have someone accompany you for a few days.
- Do not drive for the first 10 days.
- For one month after surgery, avoid heavy exercise and lifting heavy objects, including carrying a baby or child.
- Smoking reduces circulation, delays wound healing, and significantly increases the risk of serious complications. You should quit smoking at least four weeks before and four weeks after your procedure.
- Avoid exposing your incisions to excessive strain or movement, and especially during the first four weeks, refrain from exercises that directly put stress on the operated area.
