Description

Arm Lift Surgery (Brachioplasty) at Medicci

- An arm lift, also known as brachioplasty, is a cosmetic surgery designed to reshape and contour the upper arms by tightening loose, sagging skin and removing excess fat. This procedure effectively firms the skin from the armpit to the elbow, often following significant weight loss or natural aging. In some cases, liposuction may be combined with the surgery to achieve enhanced results.

When Should You Consider an Arm Lift?

You may be a good candidate for arm lift surgery if:

- Your underarm area is sagging despite being at a healthy weight.

- You have lost a significant amount of weight and your upper arms resemble “bat wings.”

- You are willing to accept that while the procedure removes excess skin and reshapes the arms, it may leave a surgical scar.

If one or more of these concerns apply to you, and you are in good overall health with realistic expectations, an arm lift at Medicci could be the ideal solution.

Techniques

How an Arm Lift (Brachioplasty) is Performed

Before the surgery begins, your plastic surgeon will carefully mark the elbows, arms, and underarm areas to determine the placement, length, and direction of the incisions. The exact incision technique depends on the specific type of brachioplasty planned for you.

These incisions are necessary to remove excess skin and fat. Whenever possible, incisions are placed within the armpits or in less visible areas to minimize scarring. After the incisions are made, the surgeon removes the loose skin and fat, creating a firmer and smoother upper arm contour. Finally, the incisions are meticulously closed for optimal healing.

Before Surgery

Consultation Before Arm Lift Surgery

Before proceeding with an arm lift (brachioplasty), patients undergo a comprehensive consultation to discuss their aesthetic goals and determine their eligibility for the procedure.

At Medicci, our experienced surgical team carefully evaluates factors such as skin quality, degree of sagging, and overall health condition to create a fully personalized treatment plan.

This tailored approach ensures that the procedure addresses each patient’s specific concerns while maximizing safety and delivering optimal, natural-looking results.

Surgery

Arm Lift Procedure at Medicci

During an arm lift surgery (brachioplasty), our skilled surgeons use advanced techniques to minimize visible scarring. Incisions are strategically placed along the inner arm or within the armpit area to discreetly remove excess skin and fat.

The underlying tissues are then tightened, and the remaining skin is carefully repositioned to create a firmer, smoother, and more contoured upper arm appearance. Finally, the incisions are meticulously closed to promote optimal healing and reduce the likelihood of noticeable scars.

After Surgery

Arm Lift Recovery at Medicci

After an arm lift surgery (brachioplasty), patients receive detailed aftercare instructions to ensure proper healing and achieve the best long-term results.

How Long Do Results Last?

The results of an arm lift are long-lasting, often remaining visible for several years as long as significant weight gain is avoided. While some natural skin relaxation over time is expected, it will be far less pronounced compared to the pre-surgery condition.

Post-Surgery Care Guidelines:

- Follow all instructions provided by your surgeon for a safe and smooth recovery (including post-surgical bandages, drains, incision care, and prescribed medications/creams).

- Hospital stay is typically 1 day, unless extended observation is medically required.

- Attend all scheduled follow-up appointments set by your surgeon.

- Avoid activities that may raise blood pressure and cause bleeding at the surgical site during the first 10 days.

- Most patients return to daily routines within a few days, but taking at least 1 week off work is recommended. If your job involves heavy arm use, plan for 2 weeks of rest.

- Some tightness and discomfort around the stitches may occur during the first 3 days; pain can be managed with medication and usually decreases over time.

- Arrange for assistance from a friend or family member during the first few days, as you may feel tired or sensitive.

- Do not drive for the first 10 days.

- Avoid heavy lifting, strenuous workouts, and carrying children for at least 1 month after surgery.

- Smoking reduces circulation, delays healing, and increases the risk of complications—stop smoking at least 4 weeks before and after surgery.

- Protect your incisions by avoiding excessive strain or stretching, especially during the first 4 weeks.
