Description
Facial Feminization refers to a combination of surgical procedures designed to soften the face and reduce “masculine facial features,” creating a more feminine appearance. FFS is performed on both the bone structure and the soft tissues covering it.
The specific procedures required vary from person to person, depending on their goals and the features they wish to change or feel uncomfortable with.
Facial Feminization Surgery (FFS) plays an important role in helping women with masculine facial traits, as well as trans women, feel secure, confident, and happy with their appearance.
Why Facial Feminization Surgery?
- To maintain facial harmony by balancing the proportions of the upper, mid, and lower face
- To address facial features such as the hairline, cheeks, and jaw in order to reduce masculine traits and achieve a more feminine appearance as needed
- To refine the soft tissues for balanced, feminine contours
- To restore a refreshed and youthful look

Surgery
Facial Feminization Surgery
Facial Feminization Surgery is a meticulous process that involves strategic adjustments to the skin, muscles, and underlying structures of the face. Our surgeons gently elevate and reposition tissues to sculpt the face, resulting in a more refined and feminine appearance.
Each step of the procedure is performed with precision, taking the individual’s facial proportions into account to achieve a harmonious, natural look that aligns with the desired femininity.
After Surgery
Hospital Stay and Recovery After Surgery
The average hospital stay is 2 days, provided there are no complications during the postoperative period. After surgery, patients are given medications to reduce pain and minimize the risk of infection, and follow-up appointments are scheduled on the dates specified by the surgeon.
The recovery period varies depending on the procedures performed, typically lasting 2 to 6 weeks. During the first weeks, you should avoid any strenuous physical activity. For this reason, it is helpful to have someone assist you with daily routines. After the first 10 days, you may resume light daily activities that do not cause fatigue; however, strenuous exercise and sports should be avoided for a longer period.
When can the final results be evaluated?
Recovery varies from patient to patient, but bruising generally resolves within 2 to 4 weeks. Results typically become visible after an average of 6 months, though it may take a year or longer. Scar healing usually takes about a year, meaning it may take up to a year (or more) to see the final outcome.
Common Postoperative Symptoms
- Numbness
- Tightness
- Swelling and bruising
- Difficulty breathing through the nose
- Difficulty eating
Post-Surgery Tips
- Following all of your surgeon’s instructions is crucial for a smooth recovery (bandages, drains, incision care, prescribed medications/creams, etc.).
- Your surgeon will inform you about potential warning signs, such as symptoms of infection. Recovery time varies depending on the patient and the extent of surgery.
- Unless medically necessary, the hospital stay is limited to 2 days.
- After discharge, you will attend follow-up appointments on the days scheduled by your surgeon. Drains will be removed during these check-ups or at a later appointment if required.
- Do not take aspirin or any anti-inflammatory medication for two weeks before and after surgery.
- Sleep with your head elevated at a 40-degree angle for the first 10 days. Using an extra pillow or two can help.
- Avoid lifting heavy objects for one week, as this may increase swelling or raise blood pressure, leading to bleeding.
- Report excessive bleeding that continues after applying pressure for 15–20 minutes.
- Avoid swimming, diving, or engaging in strenuous activity for at least one month.
- Limit direct sun exposure, wear protective clothing, and use sunscreen.
- You may experience tightness and mild pain around the incision sites for several days. Pain can usually be managed with medication.
- Some numbness may occur in certain areas. This varies from patient to patient and generally improves over time.
- Because you may feel tired and sensitive after surgery, having a companion for the first few days is recommended.
- Do not drive for the first 10 days.
- Smoking reduces circulation, delays wound healing, and significantly increases the risk of complications. You should quit smoking at least four weeks before and four weeks after surgery.
- It is possible to experience emotional reactions, such as postoperative depression. This is normal and temporary.
