Description
The Biggest Deformations in a Woman’s Life
One of the greatest deformations a woman may experience throughout her life is caused by pregnancy and childbirth. The hormonal and physical changes of this process most prominently affect the abdomen, breasts, waist, hips, inner thighs, and vaginal area.
Mommy Makeover
The Mommy Makeover is one of the most popular combined aesthetic surgery procedures, designed specifically to address issues such as weight gain after pregnancy and breastfeeding, sagging of the breasts and skin, and similar concerns.
The term “Mommy Makeover” refers to a combination of body contouring procedures tailored to the patient’s individual needs and complaints in order to correct post-pregnancy body changes.
Most commonly, the procedure begins with breast and abdominal contouring surgeries, but additional procedures may be included to restore overall body proportion if needed.
Although its name suggests it is intended only for mothers after pregnancy, a Mommy Makeover is not limited to them. Aging, major weight loss, or other body changes can also cause similar deformations, making this procedure suitable for many women.
Post-pregnancy changes often include breast reduction, enlargement or sagging, stretch marks, loose abdominal skin, and abdominal wall widening due to muscle separation. Unfortunately, most of these changes are permanent and persist despite maintaining a healthy diet and exercise routine. This is where a Mommy Makeover can be a powerful solution.
What Does a Mommy Makeover Include?
- Breast Surgery (augmentation, reduction, lift)
- Tummy Tuck / Abdominoplasty
- Liposuction
- Genital Aesthetic Procedures
Post-Pregnancy Breast Aesthetics
Breast Lift: After breastfeeding, breasts often lose volume and stretch marks may appear. Due to excess skin, sagging can occur. In such cases, breast augmentation combined with a lift is usually required. Sometimes, a reduction with a lift may be more suitable. These procedures can safely be performed about 5–6 months after breastfeeding has ended.
Breast Augmentation with Lift: When breast tissue has significantly diminished, a simple lift may not deliver satisfactory results. In these cases, silicone implants are used to restore volume and achieve an improved shape.
Breast Reduction with Lift: If the breast tissue is sufficient, a reduction combined with a lift can achieve satisfying results. Scars may remain only around the areola or extend down to the natural breast fold.
When performed with the right technique, breast surgeries preserve the ability to breastfeed in case of future pregnancies, as the milk ducts beneath the nipple are not cut during reduction.
Post-Pregnancy Tummy Tuck (Abdominoplasty)
After childbirth, women may experience loose skin, sagging fat, weakened or separated abdominal muscles, and changes in the abdominal wall. Achieving a firm and flat stomach depends primarily on tightening the abdominal muscles, which is the most critical aspect of a tummy tuck.
During the procedure, excess skin and fat below the navel, including stretch marks, are removed. The abdominal muscles and wall are tightened, dramatically improving the sagging belly appearance and restoring a flat contour. Hernias, if present, are repaired, and a new belly button is created.
Women should wait at least 3 months after giving birth before undergoing abdominoplasty. If breastfeeding, this period should extend to a minimum of 1 year. The procedure should not be performed at the same time as a C-section. The uterus, which enlarges to the size of a basketball during pregnancy, needs at least 45 days to shrink back to normal, along with hormonal rebalancing.
Patients usually spend one night in the hospital, can stand and walk the same day, and may return to light work or school life within 1–2 weeks. Light exercise and brisk walking can typically begin after 1 month, with greater results achieved through abdominal strengthening and weight control in the following weeks.
Mommy Makeover with Liposuction
Certain areas of the body — such as the abdomen, waist, hips, inner and outer thighs, and knees — are particularly prone to fat deposits resistant to diet and exercise, especially after pregnancy. Excessive exercise not only fails to eliminate these stubborn fat pockets but can also negatively affect overall metabolism.
Liposuction is not a weight-loss method; it is a body contouring technique that removes these stubborn fat deposits using negative-pressure suction while sculpting the body like an artist. It is often combined with a tummy tuck and can be safely performed once the patient has reached her desired post-pregnancy weight (3 months to 1 year after childbirth).
Post-Pregnancy Genital Aesthetics
Vaginal tightening procedures help correct deformations that occur after natural childbirth, significantly improving sexual life.
Aesthetic correction of the vulva, including the removal of excess skin and sagging of the labia majora and minora, provides highly satisfying results.
The mons pubis (the fatty area above the vulva) can be reduced or reshaped with liposuction or liposculpture. Large labia majora can also be reshaped with fat transfer or fillers.
These procedures generally require patients to wait at least 6 months after childbirth before being performed.
Techniques
Our expert surgeons use advanced techniques tailored to each patient’s individual needs. These may include breast augmentation to restore lost volume, tummy tuck to tighten abdominal muscles and remove excess skin, and liposuction to contour stubborn fat areas.
By combining these procedures into a Mommy Makeover, we aim to provide comprehensive rejuvenation and help you achieve the body contouring results you desire.
Before Surgery
Before undergoing a Mommy Makeover, patients go through a comprehensive consultation process to discuss their goals and concerns. Our experienced surgeons carefully evaluate each patient’s anatomy and medical history, developing a personalized treatment plan that addresses specific needs and desired outcomes.
We prioritize open communication and thorough planning to ensure that patients feel safe, supported, and fully informed at every step of the journey.
Surgery
A Mommy Makeover typically involves multiple surgical procedures that may be performed in a single operation or staged over several sessions. Our expert surgeons carefully address each area of concern, often focusing on the breasts, abdomen, and other regions affected by pregnancy and childbirth.
By combining procedures such as breast augmentation or lift, tummy tuck, and liposuction, we can reshape and contour the body to restore a more youthful, revitalized appearance. Our goal is to provide comprehensive care that helps each patient feel confident and comfortable in her post-pregnancy body.
After Surgery
After a Mommy Makeover: Recovery and Care
Proper aftercare following a Mommy Makeover is essential for optimal healing and long-lasting results. Patients receive detailed instructions tailored to their specific procedures and individual needs.
Following all of your surgeon’s instructions is critical for a smooth recovery (including postoperative bandages, drains, incision care, prescribed medications/creams, etc.).
- Recovery time varies depending on the patient and the extent of the surgical procedures performed.
- Unless medically required, the average hospital stay is 2 days.
- After discharge, you will have scheduled follow-up appointments determined by your surgeon. Drains may be removed during these visits, or if necessary, their removal may be postponed until the next check-up.
- Depending on the surgical combination, it may take about one week to return to your daily routine.
- During this period, you may experience tightness at the incision site, pain, bruising, and swelling.
- Because you may feel tired and sensitive after surgery, it is recommended to have someone assist you for a few days.
- Do not drive for the first 10 days.
- Swelling can persist for six months or longer.
- While initial results will be visible right away, the final outcome can only be assessed once all swelling subsides, which may take six months to a year.
- Avoid heavy exercise and lifting (including children) for at least three weeks after the procedure.
- Smoking reduces circulation, delays wound healing, and significantly increases the risk of complications. Therefore, you should stop smoking at least four weeks before and four weeks after the procedure.
