Description

Abdominoplasty (Tummy Tuck)

Abdominoplasty is a surgical procedure performed to eliminate sagging in the abdominal area. In women, sagging skin that does not return to its original state after childbirth or significant weight loss is removed.

During a tummy tuck, the skin and excess fat tissue in the middle and lower abdomen, along with the sagging portion, are removed. If the abdominal muscles are loose and separated, they are tightened with sutures. This also corrects the bulging appearance of the abdomen.

Will there be a scar after abdominoplasty?

Since the skin is pulled downward during the procedure, a horizontal scar remains in the bikini line area.

Can stretch marks be removed with abdominoplasty?

Because the abdominal skin is stretched downward, stretch marks located below the belly button can usually be removed.

Who are the best candidates for abdominoplasty?

Individuals who are close to their normal body weight but are bothered by excess fat and loose skin in the abdominal area despite exercise and dieting are considered good candidates. Abdominoplasty is especially recommended for those whose abdominal skin has sagged or lost elasticity, often after pregnancy.

Is pregnancy possible after abdominoplasty?

Since the procedure involves tightening and stretching the loose abdominal skin, pregnancy is not recommended afterwards. Women who plan to have more children should discuss this with their surgeon before deciding on abdominoplasty.

What results can be expected after abdominoplasty?

Physical appearance will begin to improve within a few days after surgery. Once the swelling subsides, the new body contours will become visible, and the individual’s self-confidence will increase.

Are there disadvantages of abdominoplasty?

Better results can be achieved with an experienced surgeon; however, as with any surgical intervention, complications may occur. Rare issues such as infection and bleeding may arise. Smoking is strongly discouraged, as it delays wound healing and may affect scar recovery.

Techniques

At Medicci, our experienced surgeons use a variety of techniques to perform abdominoplasty (tummy tuck) procedures tailored to each patient’s unique needs. Depending on the degree of correction required and the patient’s individual anatomy, our surgeons may recommend a traditional tummy tuck, mini tummy tuck, or extended tummy tuck.

Traditional Tummy Tuck is ideal for patients with significant excess skin and fat in the abdominal area. During this procedure, our surgeons make a horizontal incision extending from hip to hip just above the pubic area. Excess skin and fat are removed, and the abdominal muscles are tightened to create a flatter and more toned midsection.

Is anesthesia applied to the patient?

The procedure can take 3–4 hours, depending on its complexity. Before surgery begins, patients receive light sedation followed by general anesthesia to ensure comfort and safety throughout the operation.

Before Surgery

Before undergoing a tummy tuck (abdominoplasty) at Medicci, patients go through a comprehensive consultation with our experienced surgeons. During this consultation, patients have the opportunity to discuss their aesthetic goals, concerns, and expectations.

Our surgeons carefully evaluate each patient’s medical history, current health status, and aesthetic objectives to determine their candidacy for the procedure.

Surgery

During a tummy tuck (abdominoplasty) at Medicci, our expert surgeons typically begin by making an incision along the bikini line or underwear line to minimize visible scarring. The length and placement of these incisions may vary depending on the degree of correction required and the specific techniques used.

Once the incisions are made, our surgeons carefully remove excess skin and fat from the abdominal area. This may include eliminating loose or sagging skin as well as stubborn fat deposits, resulting in a smoother and more toned abdominal contour.

After Surgery

Following a tummy tuck procedure at Medicci, patients receive comprehensive aftercare instructions to ensure a smooth and successful recovery. Our dedicated surgical team provides detailed guidance on post-operative care to help patients manage discomfort, minimize swelling, and achieve the best possible results.

What happens after tummy tuck surgery?

In the first few days, patients may experience swelling, discomfort, and tightness in the abdominal area. Pain relievers may be prescribed to manage these symptoms. Patients are encouraged to stand up and walk as early as possible to support circulation and healing.

Most of the stitches used are internal and dissolvable, meaning they do not need to be removed. After bandages are gradually reduced, patients are fitted with a compression garment, which should be worn for 1 to 1.5 months to support the new abdominal contour and reduce swelling.

When can patients return to normal life?

Many patients are able to return to work within two weeks, though full recovery may take several weeks. The incision marks initially appear pink but gradually fade and become less noticeable over time.

After follow-up visits with the surgeon, light exercises are typically recommended to help strengthen the abdominal muscles and support long-term results.
